Why we built this

Losing someone is disorienting enough without also having to guess whether a $4,000 quote is fair or padded. Cremation Cost started as a way to put real, typical pricing in front of families before that first phone call to a funeral home, so a quote can be judged against something instead of taken on faith.

What the calculator actually models

The tool separates three paths: direct cremation with no ceremony, cremation paired with a memorial or graveside service, and a full funeral home package that still ends in cremation. It layers in urn choice and an optional viewing, then nudges the whole estimate using cost patterns for your ZIP code. Nothing you type is sent anywhere; the math runs entirely in your browser.

Where the figures come from

Baseline ranges come from this site's own model of typical US cremation pricing, built from published funeral home price lists and industry cost research, and are not pulled from any single provider's rate card. Funeral homes are required under the FTC Funeral Rule to hand over an itemized general price list on request, in person or by phone; use that right alongside whatever number this calculator gives you.
